If your teen has struggled with crooked or chipped teeth for a long period of time, then veneers are often recommended to solve these issues. Your teen's dentist may even recommend porcelain veneers because they match traditional teeth and hold up to an extended amount of wear and tear. Once the veneer installation process is complete, your teen may experience some sensitivity. This happens because part of your child's enamel is usually removed in order to create a surface for the veneer.

The sensitivity is not long lasting and will subside after a few days have passed. However, this can be difficult for your teenager to endure. Fortunately, there are a few tips that you can use to make this transition easier for them.

Only Serve Your Teen Soft Foods

Soft foods are often recommended after oral surgery or some other big procedure. A porcelain veneer procedure is not nearly as intensive but eating soft foods immediately after the procedure can ease any discomfort. If your teen suffers from sensitivity, then they will be able to feel every bite that they take if they choose to eat solid foods. This makes it painful to eat.

In order to avoid this, you can serve them foods like soups and shakes. This allows them to eat their meals without aggravating the areas in their mouth that are already sensitive. Once the sensitivity wears off, then you can slowly move from soft foods to more solid meals.

Give Your Teen Analgesic Juices

Analgesic juices are juices that contain analgesic properties. These properties aid in pain relief. You can create an analgesic juice from home using herbs like ginger and passion flower. Steep the herbs in hot water and add lemon and lime slices. Place the mixture in a blender along with oranges and strawberries and blend until it is as smooth as possible.

Avoid leaving any solid pieces in the smoothies as this can accidentally aggravate your teen's tooth sensitivity when they decide to consume the drink. You can also add a few spoonfuls of honey or any other sweetener for taste. Allow your teen to drink the juice throughout the day in order to notice any difference in their pain levels.

Getting porcelain veneers as a teen can be an extremely exciting procedure. However, the pain can quickly put a damper on that. Use these tips to help your teen overcome this sensitivity. Learn more by contacting resources like Michael G Landy DDS.
